Daddy Donkey

Project: Brand identity
Deliverables: Logo, illustrations, style guide, kiosk, staff uniform

Giving an overweight donkey a well needed kick up the ass.

Logotype

The Daddy Donkey logotype was created by hand-painting each letter on to distressed wood, scanning and then piecing them together digitally.

Donkey logo

Below is the original logo, we turned the donkey into a 'Kick-ass' Luchador wrestler, Kick-ass being a reference to the spicy kick of Mexican street food (and the Donkey obviously).

Old Logo (not our design)

Donkey Logo

The colours of the donkey were based on the red, green and white from the Mexican flag, but given slightly more aged look. The Illustration style was inspired by the hand-painted signage typical of many Mexican towns.

No Luchador is complete with out a rival, enter Burger Boy! An over-weight arch enemy who personifies unhealthy eating.

Logotype layouts

Various logo 'lock-ups' were created using combinations of the Daddy Donkey logotype, the kick-ass Donkey and the 'Kick-ass Mexican Grill' strap line. Allowing greater flexibility for branding.

Texture detail

We created logo with three levels of detail, for use at small (business card), medium (t-shirts) and extra large (restaurant signage) with increasing amounts of rough texture, to maintain the distinctive hand painted feel regardless of size. These three detail treatments were then applied to the logo 'lock-ups' shown above.

Staff t-shirts

Black t-shirts were used for all Daddy Donkey staff, this was so that they still looked clean and smart after even the busiest Friday lunchtime service. Each member of staff had there own phrase, which we hand painted then scanned, to ensure that every element of the Daddy Donkey brand was completely unique.

Kiosk detail (proposed)

The 4 sided kiosk was given an all-over hand painted feel, to give the appearance that it had been transported directly from the streets of Mexico.

A large mural was designed to poke fun at the near-by rival burger van.
